What is Naturopathic Medicine?
Naturopathic Medicine is as a unique system of health care- an art and science that brings ancient medicines into a modern paradigm, bridging the gap between natural healing and conventional medical practices. Its unique philosophy unifies all of the therapeutic branches of this medicine tree.
I decided to pursue my medical training in naturopathic medicine because I believed it was the system that was going to help people truly become healthier. To me, it was the future of medicine.
philosophical nutshell
Naturopathic medicine promises to:
- Work with the healing power of nature’s remedies and the body’s wisdom
- Treat the root cause of illness by using gentle and natural methods
- Focus on building health and wellness, rather than simply treating symptoms or disease.
- Address underlying imbalances in the body, which are specific to each individual.
- Educate you about your health
The results are fewer side effects than conventional allopathic medicine and fast effective results for both chronic and acute conditions.
education (yes, I really am a doctor!)
Naturopathic doctors are trained as primary health care physicians in a four-year accredited naturopathic medical school. Currently there are four such schools in the country. The basic courses taken in the first two years of school are identical to those taken in conventional medical and chiropractic programs including anatomy, physiology, biochemistry histology, psychology, pathology, microbiology, immunology, clinical and physical diagnosis, lab diagnosis and pharmacology. Further studies include cardiology, oncology, urology, gynecology, dermatology, neurology, pediatrics, geriatrics, minor surgery and gastroenterology.
In addition, we have in-depth education in nutritional and dietary therapy, herbal medicine, homeopathy, hydrotherapy, massage, physiotherapy, naturopathic manipulative techniques, Chinese medicine and counseling.
The best of both worlds!
